The Beautiful |
|
|
| This short film tells the story of one young woman's disillusionment with her family and on a greater level the disappointment she feels for her country. |
| The Beautiful is both sassy and bratty in it's poignant portrayal. The film's characters consist of a 3 member family - Uncle Sam, Lady Liberty and their daughter - Beauty. The story is told through the eyes of Beauty. Factiously Beauty rips into her parents - comically they either respond or not. |

| The film was
inspired by the poem of the same name by Michelle Tea. Michelle is an
amazing prominent writer. Her work is widely recognized as her voice
resonates to the many adults spurned and learned by disillusioned
childhoods. The poem is published in Michelle's book, 'The Beautiful'. The
book was published by manic d press, out of San Francisco. It is an
awesome collection of poems that are both silly, political and lovely.

| The film stars the powerhouse talents of Marvin Novogrodski, Lynn Brown and Laura Dargus. Marvin's resume is strong and diverse. He is a trained dancer, juggler and seems to know a few things about science too. He aptly starred as Uncle Sam. Please check out his web site HERE. |

| Lynn Brown arrived at the audition with a song sheet in hand. When it was her turn to perform she broke into a folk version (she plays the guitar too) of, 'A boy like that' - from 'West Side Story'. It was a shock and awe experience. I immediately knew I had to work with her. She suitably starred as Lady Liberty. |
|
|
| Laura Dargus is a transplant from Phoenix, AZ, an Emerson College Grad and soon to be Lawyer. Laura easily transformed into the impish character Beauty. Laura drew from her acting adventures of her youth, having starred in and worked on dozens of productions. Her expressions and gestures added vitality and range to the role and the film. |

| The film is effected by Video Gogh. This effect gives a water color look to each image. Video Gogh is a plug-in for final cut pro. More about this effect can be found HERE. Eric Spears once again worked with me on the edit for this film. Eric applied timeless energy and effort, his editing skills are supreme. The film's music was created by Ricardo Poza. This is the 4th film of mine that Ricardo has scored. His talent created a funky track heard throughout the piece. |
| The film was shot over the course of one day. We shot the film in what seems to be proving as my favorite locations - my apartment and the beach near my home. Hey it's convenient..! |
