DEB'S DEAD GIRL

The Story.....

a modern day love story, with a gay twist and a campy sensibility.

Deb, a lonely mixed up girl in the big city searches for love.

And love is what she finds with a dead girl.

STARRING -

Merry Williams

Merry Williams is currently the lead singer for a band in Boston. She was a total natural on the set - she became Deb. Her input on costuming and art direction were essential!

& Michelle Tea

Shelly Tea is an amazing writer. She is the co-founder of Sister Spit - the all girl traveling spoken word show. She has 3 books published, she's got great style, and she's psychic.

The Production

My friend Michelle Tea whisked into town. I was taking a video production class at BF/VF. I had all the equipment.

I thought - "let me make a film with the fabulous Michelle Tea"(from San Francisco).

That Friday I wrote the script.

The next day I dropped it off, to Michelle Tea - who was staying with Merry Williams.

Sunday night we shot the film - in Merry's bedroom.

We filmed for 4 hours. There seemed to be a few personal dramas on the day of the shoot (the girls had spent the night before in Providence, RI - there was a bar brawl, the details are fuzzy) - but Merry like a true to form actress poured all that intensity into her character - the result, Excellence!

The film was shot on the Sony VX2000

The edit was created on Final Cut Pro.

A few months later I worked with my editor to make the piece.

The edit went smoothly however.... His 102 year old landlady lived in the building where we did the edit - his apartment. During each visit she accosted me - grabbing at my shoulder, pleading for me to read her mail. I did a couple of times. During the edit she was either wailing for us, her voice louder than her blaring TV - or calling us on the phone,  or knocking on the door. It was intense.

Post

We had one fun party in San Francisco, met with a great reception for the film.
